Use Sheepshaver

There is a utility package that materializes an early (classic) MacOS window inside MacOS X. I have it working successfully on an intel Mac running MacOS X Snow Leopard (10.6). I run the same version of MYM 7.2 as I did on my last PowerMac that was running MacOS X Tiger (10,4). I have years and years of MMY financial data so continuing to run MYM was the fastest way to have backward compatibility to my old years' data. I also like the double-entry accounting system of MYM, as opposed to Quicken with its single-entry organization.

You should know that MYM for Mac was not a port of the old DOS version of MYM. It was created by a company under contract who had a business-oriented Mac accounting program and embellished it with Names for accounts instead of numbers. That made it easy for my wife to use. I still use that company's numbered-account version called MYOB.

Getting Sheepshaver installed, working and having all the necessary tools for getting MYM date in and out of the Sheepshaver window is not trivial. The Mac Sheepshaver is a port from some other operating system.

I was able to install it is because a good friend who is a Mac programmer provided what I needed.

What is your objective? Do you want to actually use Sheepshaver or do you only want to open the existing file you have?

In summary, I find that I can make use of the existing MYM with MacOS X Snow Leopard.

Let me know what you really want to be able to do.

I can do two things:

1. Send you the Sheepshaver stuff to install on your mini. Then you are on your own.

2. You send me your MYM data file or files, and I will open it/them on my Sheepshaver and send the data back in whatever format to which it can be opened on your machine.

This option has to be done carefully because as soon as a classic app data file is opened some critical info is lost, because the MacOS X on Intel does not have a classic environment, with the two-fork structure of classic files is discarded.

I have several ways to read old Mac floppies, assuming that they are physically readable; did you get read errors when you tried to open your MYM floppy?

Old format Mac floppies from way back (720K format) can only be read on old Mac floppy drives (I think). I have several old Macs with floppy drives. I keep them around exactly for this purpose.

Glad you are getting help but I have to point out that email addresses in public forums are SPAM magnets.
Far better to enable the "Email me" option in your profile and then conduct business off forum.
