The term, I think, is BHO (Browser Helper Objects). More on it, and a link to currently 1642 bad ones, in http://www.spywareinfo.com/bhos/
Legitimate ones are few. There's an Adobe Add-on, to open a pdf in a browser window, there's the Spybot helper SDHELPER (doing the immunize, maybe), the Microsoft Radio Toolbar (or something like that) might be listed as one. CWSHREDDER 2.0+ and hijackthis also list the installed ones, and Spybot might contain a list of "trusted" BHO's.
I would advice you make a note of the ones you have, and post here if you can't find anything on one or more of them. Then from time to time compare the situation with the known one.
Hope this helps.

While being kicked off the Internet for 4 day's straight.. and thinking it was Ad-Aware.. I was poking around .. and found 'Manage Add-Ons' in I.E. Until recently, I had not even been aware of it's existence.
Does anyone know if there is a published list of Add-On's, like Task List and Start Up? (When I put an item in Google, all I get are HJT log's. Not much help) I am presuming, this is, yet another area, that the "bad guy's" are able to place themselves. Wrong presumption? (Anywhere I can go to read about it?)
And.. will Spybot and Ad-Aware pick up any unwanted additions?
Thanks in advance...
