Man reacts negatively to summons to jury duty,...

Nov 29, 2003 9:42AM PST

...and the judge was not amused:

A four-letter expletive on a jury summons has an Indianapolis man in trouble with the Marion County courts.

Jack L. Thompson will have to explain to a judge why his summons was sent back this month with an obscenity scrawled across it in thick letters.

"We rely on people serving as jurors to move our court cases through the system," Marion County Clerk Doris Anne Sadler said. "We already lack jurors, and for someone to completely thumb their nose in the face of the court and their civic responsibility is a clear sign of contempt."

Although no court date has been set, Thompson will be called before Superior Court Judge Cynthia Ayers. He will have a chance to present evidence showing why he should not be held in contempt.

If he can't win over the judge, he could be fined $100 and ordered to spend three days in the Marion County Jail.

That might get his attention - but I kind of doubt it somehow...

Paul,

For the whole month of July, I was sitting on a Grand Jury. Actually, every Tuesday. There were five of them.

My sister's last name is Ayers. Happy

That, of course, is the irony here

No lawyer will want him on a jury after this; he's got a lifetime "Get out of jury duty (almost) free" card.
