Malwarebytes Anti-Malware... latest update?

Nov 2, 2008 2:20AM PST

Scan with Malwarebytes Anti-Malware using the latest definitions seems to be messing with SpywareGuard software.

Removing and placing three trojans (Trojan.FakeAlert) in quarantine disables download protection feature of SpywareGuard.

I have restored a file and two registry keys... seems to correct the problem. I believe these to be a false positive.

I am not removing these for the time being. Is anyone else who uses SpywareGuard having this problem?

Re:MBAM .. latest update?
Nov 2, 2008 2:30AM PST

Glenn..

I would suggest reporting it to MB. Run the scan in "developer mode" (as instructed below) and post the results at their False Positive section.

1. Click the Start Menu.
2. Click Run.
3. Type in "mbam.exe /developer", without the quotes.
4. Run the same type of scan you did before and save the logfile and post it.

Your second post is similar but not exactly the same. I believe Malwarebytes AntiMalware has a thing with SpywareGuard. Grin

Your post caught my eye. I use SpywareGuard and MBAM doesn't have a problem with it. Not that I'm upset about it, but now my curiosity has been peaked.

I'll have to keep an eye out for your post. Or maybe.. I'll keep my eye in and ... just look for it. Happy

Carol, followed your instructions...

and secured a Log File but the Malwarebytes sites requires one to become a member and sign-in to report a problem with their software. Too many hoops to jump through, so I immediately forgot about the whole thing.

Larry38 reports a new update fixed his problem so I downloaded the update... scan is now in progress... we will see if takes care of my issue as well.

Will post results when scan is complete. Thanks for you help and suggestions.

Hi Glenn... Just noticed your post.
Nov 2, 2008 5:16AM PST

I also use SG and MB, just ran a quick scan and got the same thing, so I ignored them. I read Carol's post, and checked the MB Forum, so maybe MB will put out a fix soon.

Just checked MB for any updates...

got a later update 1357 and ran a quick scan, this time the scan showed nothing. Maybe it is fixed?

Larry.. did you set MBAM to "ignore" the detections?
Nov 2, 2008 6:16AM PST

Larry..

No need to tell you if you did, it's what it will do. Ignore them on a future scan. I scanned and took no action at all, and it still detected "the same". I reported it at MB, so we shall see.

Carol, I did not set mine to ignore...

the detections so we shall see what happens when the scan is completed.

Going to dinner while scan completes. Grin

The re-scan after the latest update still came up positive.

Waiting for the next update to fix this as reported by Roddy Happy

I did set them to "ignore" but removed them, so now they are still there. I took no action this time.

Thanks for keeping me straight, must have had a "Senior Moment". Happy

You're welcome and thanks for posting back..

Larry..

My faith in your "lacking senior moments", had me thinking I posted in haste at MB. I posted a log the other day, which someone responded to within minutes. I doubt that will be happening again. And if it does, I don't think I'll be around to see "the end of the story". (By "around".. I mean "just for tonight" Silly )

Thanks again for posting back ..
