Trojan Horse PSW.Banker5.ZOY
Oct 19, 2009 4:44PM PDT

I have attempted to send a sample of this virus to AVG and I receive a message that "sending of the sample failed. I now have gone from one incidence of this virus while running Malware (which gave a clean scan reply} to three incidences fo this showing up on AVG Free Edition.Has anyone else gotten this message and problem. If so, what does one do to assure that the virus doesn't propagate and that it is removed ccorrectly or if it is a false positive?????

You wrote, "I now have gone from one incidence of this virus while running Malware (which gave a clean scan reply} to three incidences to this showing up on AVG Free Edition".

Only to make sure I'm totally clear on this. I take this to mean AVG is (now) detecting Trojan PSW.Banker5.ZOY in 3 different files, when prior to this point, it was only one.

AVG's detection of PSW.Banker5.ZOY was a false one, and has since been addressed. Update AVG and scan again.

If you had a problem, sending a sample to AVG, another alternative exists. Upload the file/s to an online scanner service, where multiple AntiVirus engines will analyze them.

VirusTotal
VirSCAN is another.

Let us know how you make out...

Trojan info

Thank you for your info. I have updated everything and am in the process of rescanning my computer. I do have another question you could perhaps help me with. Should I be concerned about the large amount of locked files AVG and Malware are not scanning? I am a relative newbie and don't know if a file is locked if something hinky is going on or if it is a protection device so I don't delete files that run windows.
If you have the time to reply to this I would appreciate it.
Thanks again,
Janaleemac

Janaleemac..

Unless AVG is reporting a problem/infection with the locked files, it's normal and nothing to be concerned about. There are a number of system files, which are locked and reported by AVG as "unable to be scanned". If you have any doubts about some of the files, you always have the option to post a copy of the report, at our AVG Forum at CNET. (Or the Spyware, Viruses & Security forum ) Otherwise, you have the option to exclude the "locked file scan" report from showing.

I don't use AVG as my A/V, but according to this post at the AVG Forum, in order to not have the locked files scan report show:

'To see the setting for a manual scan, select "Change scan settings" under Scan whole computer on the Computer scanner page. Select "Set additional scan reports..." on the next dialog screen. You will see a bunch of options, one of which is to report locked files. Uncheck it'.

I might have worded the above a little differently (and clearly) had I been using AVG. Wink I'm sure you'll be able to figure it out. If not....
"give a shout".

Please don't ever hesitate to ask questions. You'll find the mods and members, more than willing and eager to help.
