Mall Tycoon 2 (Help)

by jenjerjack / December 15, 2004 1:17 AM PST

Hi there. My children just bought the PC game "mall tycoon 2". I installed it fine on my computer but when i went to play the game the pre-game ads come up and then the game just closes out. No error popups or anything. I thought maybe it was a faulty game so i sent it back and just recieved my new copy and i am having the same problem. I am able to run rollercoaster tycoon on my computer with no problems. Any ideas??
I have hunted for teoubleshooting advice on the game itself and came up with some software may cause the game to not work right (like Nero burning software) so i totally uninstalled my Nero, but alas, i still can not get this game going for my kids.
Please reply if you have any ideas.
P.s, i've also updated my direct X to the newest version and i am running Windows 98 SE on a P3

The usual is that no supported 3D card is in the machine.

Your post didn't include this information, so I can't tell yet if your machine met the requirements for the game.

Here's some info :o)

Thanks Bob for your quick reply. ( In fact, i think you have helped me before with a computer problem) :o)
I've hunted around in my computer here, and checked my display settings and such.
Name: ASUS-MEW V2.1 Driver
Manufacturer: ASUS
Chip type: N/A
DAC type: N/A
Total memory: 3.5 MB
Current display mode: 800x600 (24 bit) (60hz)
Monitor: TVM AS5S model

Main driver: i81xdw9x.drv
Version: (english)
Date: 8/20/99 12:00:00
WHQL: logo'd: N/A
Mini VDD: i81x.vxd
VDD: *vdd,*vflatd
DDI: Version 6
And underneath all this info i don't understand (lol) was this:
Hardware accelerated direct 3D 9+ is not available because the display driver does not support it. You may ba able to get a newer driver from the manufacture.

Not sure if this is the info you need, but was wondering if this may be my problem?
Thanks again

I didn't see a 3D card in that.

And a newer driver is unlikely to help yet.

"Total memory: 3.5 MB" gives us a clue this is a very old display system.

Main driver: i81xdw9x.drv
Version: (english)
Date: 8/20/99 12:00:00"

Tells me you have some HP/Compaq/Dell, but its' the usual i810 based system so an upgrade has to be what fits in the machine. If it did have a make and model, I must ask why you didn't tell.

1999 is forever in computer years, but the i81... is not 3D capable.
