Gamers should copy what machine Tomshardware uses for the tests. It's that simple.

Hi, I am trying to make a good gaming desktop somewhere in the $1000-1200 range. I am lost due to to the huge amount of products out there so if someone could help me with ideas for which components to buy. I also need help to diagnose incompatibilities between different hardware.

Generally speaking, visit any gamer building website like CyberPower or IBuyPower etc., and see what they put into a PC. Of course, you needn't buy from them but you see what the specs are and buy what you feel makes a good PC for you. Sorry, you're a gamer and I've found they're not a happy lot if they buy only the cheapest. if you want a decent system, think case and PSU then buy the innards to add. keep it all well cooled and powered. Don't skip on anything, you've been advised.
