Make External Hard Drive the Primary HD

I have a 192MB (ancient) PCG SR5K Vaio, which has only 10GB HD, so I bought a 80GB external HD. Can I make the external HD my primary HD to install & run programs? Is it advisable?

Yes. But you won't be running Windows.
