Question

Major upgrade, Possible RAM issue.

Aug 11, 2017 8:00AM PDT

I recently decided to upgrade my computer, I removed an ASUS Sabretooth Z77 motherboard, 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM (2x8GB) and an i7 3770K Processor and replaced them with an ASUS PRIME Z270a Motherboard, 16GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB RAM (2x8GB) (F4-3000C15D -16GTZR) and an i7 7700k Processor. I am using the same 1000w PSU, Case and HDD's.
When I try to boot the system everything powers on, the RAM's RGB's, The lights on the motherboard, The fans in the case and on the GPU but i don't get any video output I've tried this with the GPU's DVI connector and have removed the card and tried on the motherboards connector. I have found that when I boot a red CPU warning light flashes momentarily on the motherboard then goes off (I assume this is normal?) and the DRAM warning light comes on and stays on. I press the MemOK! button and the light flashes signifying that the motherboard is trying to make the RAM work but this doesn't work. Before purchasing the components I looked on the G.Skill website and it says the RAM is compatable. I have tried each RAM stick individually and in different slots but no luck. I would have thought that maybe the motherboard was faulty but everything seems to power on fine and the sticks light up as they should.
Any advice would be appreciated, as I said I have checked compatability as best as I could and I have also checked the CPU connector pins.

Clarification Request
I read you changed motherboards. Did you?

Did you remove ALL mounting posts then install just the ones required and NO MORE THAN THAT?

It's a common issue we see after folk change boards.

If there is a cmos clear jumper on the mobo try it.

Try testing with one stick of ddr4 @ 2133.

If no luck make it smaller.

Psu + mobo +cpu/hsf + one stick of ram, plug the monitor into the mobo.

Nothing else connected or plugged in.

Hi, Thanks for the advice, I followed it as much as I could. The manual said turn off power and short circuit pin 1 and 2 to clear rtc RAM. I tried this and when i booted the system back up it started once and turned off after a couple of seconds then started again and unfortunately it was the same as before. I tried this with both sticks of RAM in the A2 slot as the manual said. I dont know how to change the RAM to run @ 2133 or any smaller, I dont have access to another computer I could use to do this. Thanks again

I've uploaded this to youtube to show the issue.

On the right of the motherboard you can see the red cpu light flash on and off, reading around this seems normal but then the amber light that stays on is the DRAM warning light

You only have the parts that I mentioned connected?

Remove the cmos battery and let it sit for 20 mins.

If you have a volt meter measure the battery.... 3v or higher.

Install the battery and test.

If no luck move the mobo to a piece of cardboard.....test.

If no luck replace the cmos battery.

Hi, this video was taken earlier in the day, I did try what you said where I removed all connectors. Hdd's, USB's, etc. Still no luck. A few people I've spoken to including yourself have suggested removing the board from the case, I'll do that and I will try what you said about removing the battery.

Update

I just did what you said (See video)

I did this again with a different battery that was brand new and with both RAM sticks individually, and I had the same result. I've purchased this RAM: Hyperx Fury Black Series 4GB DDR4 2133MHz Cl 14 DIMM Memory
If that works then I know the current RAM is faulty and if it doesn't work I know that the motherboard is faulty.

After trying the new RAM the board still wouldn't boot. I returned it and brought a different board (AsROG Strix Z270E). That board works without any issues with both lots of my RAM. The site I returned the faulty board to confirmed that the board was faulty (Not sure in what way) and I have now been issued a refund.
