Mailwasher, to bounce or not to bounce..

Feb 5, 2004 12:50PM PST

I'm using mailwasher pro, which give me a choice to bounce an email.

The question surfaces because I read that it is better not to use the bounce feature, because certain email address are spoofed, so it will create more problem for me, if I bounce an invalid email address etc.

I need some information or tips for this bouncing feature...

Thank You

Hi,
There was a discussion in MW official forum for pros and cons in using MW bounce feature that you might want to have a look in case you have not seen it, it is entitled - Bouncing: The Facts?

They were more interested in discussing stupid superbowl and the Jackson tart's scaffolding.

Gakada, in my view, there is absolutely no good reason to acknoweldge spam, by any method. As I see it, any response from you will be interpreted as a sign of a live address. One thing is certain however, no real spammer is going to bother reading the bounces and politely remove you from their list.

Therefore, I never bounce spam, instead I add the abuser's entire domain to my spam filter's blocked list, not just his own email address. If this means the innocent get locked out as well, that's tough, they shouldn't be signed up with a spam service in the first place.

Note this part

"Some ISP's may modify all the emails sent so that they contain the real email address in both the 'from' field and 'reply-to' field. There is nothing much we can do about this as this as we can't control it, we would suggest you not use the bounce feature in this case."

Wanna take the chance your ISP is one of them? Then check out this part:

"When MailWasher sends a bounce email, it sends it via the postmaster of your Internet service provider so it looks exactly like it is a genuine bounced e-mail. If the message that you are trying to bounce has a false return address then you will receive a non deliverable bounced email which will further clutter your inbox - this is because you own your own domain and all the mail is fed in to that domain. This doesn't happen if you have an address from an Internet Service Provider - they get the non deliverable bounced email back to their inbox"

Umm, don't most spammers use fake email addresses? Guess what's likely to happen then?
