Question

Mail won't display Dock unread count

Mar 26, 2016 12:41AM PDT

I had this problem in Yosemite and I was hoping it would be fixed with an upgrade to El Capitan but it wasn't.

Despite setting the requirement in Mail preferences, Mail does not show in the Dock a count of unread messages.

Is there a fix for this?

Answer
Did you try any prior fixes?

I've ticked the box in Preferences

But this had no effect. I've rebuilt all mailboxes - no change. I've used this terminal command: mv ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Envelope* ~/Desktop and I get a 'No such file or directory' message.

The Google search you sent brings up lots of 'incorrect count' sites, all of which are in Mail, not in the Dock.

I'm learning to live with it.

That's what I'm reading too.

It seems the count is something of a work in progress (for years now.)
