Mail - unable to send

Just a general question at this time as I don't know the particulars(model, system info etc.) about my laptop. I have had it for approx 3 years Macbook, purchased new. I recently installed a new wireless HP printer to use with my laptop. The same day I was not able to send emails from my Mail, I get a message saying it cannot send using the server. I have had my service provider check and they cannot see anything wrong. I uninstalled the printer and it still did not work. I can receive mail and everything else connected to the internet works fine. I previously had a different HP wireless printer installed and it worked fine. I have tried everything that I know to do.
