Question

Mail on MAC

Jun 19, 2011 6:46AM PDT

Mobile Me says no longer taking subscribers. Is there a built in free e-mail program in MAC software or will I have to start paying for Yahoo Plus to get e-mail? Very confusing. Also would like to move a hotmail account to.

That could be because you are specifying

the wrong type of account.
Go through the steps again and this time specify that the account is a POP or POP3 account.

Mac has a very good and free email program

and yes the first thing that you have to do is to place data in the pop fields. This is how you tell the emailprogram where to go to get email or the pathway to send email. MyISP has thier
own email program, however, I elected to pass it over and use macmail. This has
given me two email programs, but I hardly have to access the ISP program as it
sends the email to it and then on to Mac email. Works just great.

what is the email program that our ISP gave you?

It would be really unusual for an ISP to be giving their customers software.

This is the one our ISP provides:

SquirrelMail is typically installed for end users by their employer, the school they attend, some organization that the end user is a member of, a hosting company, or an Internet service provider (ISP)

SquirrelMail is a standards-based webmail package written in PHP. It includes built-in pure PHP support for the IMAP and SMTP protocols, and all pages render in pure HTML 4.0 (with no JavaScript required) for maximum compatibility across browsers. It has very few requirements and is very easy to configure and install. SquirrelMail has all the functionality you would want from an email client, including strong MIME support, address books, and folder manipulation.

Interesting

I wonder why they would do that. It seems a little redundant when all the major OS's come with an email program.
