Question

Mail not in order date wise

I know this has been answered before and I had it in my "Tracked Discussions," but apparently the powers that be clean house once in awhile and remove the older ones. At any rate, my mail is not arriving in order date wise. I have my prefs set to show the newest at the top. Now mail is all messed up with the dates scrambled. I don't remember how I corrected it.... can someone please tell me again? Thanks,

Old numbskull Granny Lola

Answer
Assuming you are using Apple Mail

Select the IN box and in the second column, click on the "Sort by..." words.
Make sure that you have Sort by Date AND Newest at the top selected. If you have not, then make it so.

If you get you mail in some other way, the general procedure will be the same

Sorry, I do use Apple Mail

I have those two options checked, however, I did not find them where you suggested. I found them under "View." I have restarted and shut down with no change. The dates are still scrambled. I have some updates screaming at me to install but I have no idea what they are and will install them as soon as I fire this off..... (I don't care for this aspect of the newer OS's released lately, I like to know what I'm getting in advance.) I have kept all updates installed to date. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Scrambled Mail

I use Apple Mail and my mail screen is divided into three columns.

Mailboxes Mail Preview The mail itself.

Under mailboxes I have a list of mail boxes
At the top of the middle column it says "Sort by Date"
Third column shows whatever email is selected in column 2

The VIEW menu also works.

My mail looks like this: http://i1376.photobucket.com/albums/ah40/opentosuggestions/Mailbox_zpsuzr3veif.jpg

Other than the Smart Mailboxes, is this close to yours?

You can see all the information about updates by going to the App Store and selecting Updates.

Did not intend for that to "go"

Anyway, my screen has a mail folder and under it are "Yahoo" mail and "iCloud" mail folders. The mail is in order in the top main folder, so, I guess it's not really a big problem, I just don't understand what happens. I have no problem reading my mail from the combined folder. Sorry for the delay, I have been away for awhile. Thanks,
