Question

Mail, Archive Folder

Have over 250,000 messages in my Mail Archive folder. I have tried deleting them, but they just repopulate. Would like to get rid of Archive folder altogether but the delete folder option is not available . What can I do?

Answer
when you open this Archive folder,

In reply to: Mail, Archive Folder

are there any other folders inside it?

Gmail has a habit of creating this folder which is dependent on the settings you have in Gmail.

Log on to gmail in your browser.
Go to "settings"
Click on "labels"
Find the "all mail" label and uncheck "show in IMAP"

The label/folder should no longer appear on your Apple Mail folder list the next time you start Mail.

Let us know how you get on

Archive Folder

In reply to: when you open this Archive folder,

Interesting sequence after following this procedure: At 1st the Archive Folder was still in Mail on my Mac, but the folder was empty. I went through shutdown several times. Still had the folder, but no messages. Could not get new messages in my inbox. Shut down again last night. This morning the Archive Folder is gone from Mail. But still cannot get new messages in my Mail Inbox. Now have to go online to Gmail in order to see new messages. Not quite what I had in mind.

Then you have something wrong with your Gmail

settings in the Mail app.

Go back and make sure you are using iMAP and not POP to get your mail from Google.

Also, at the Gmail site, make sure you have not shut something down

I use iCloud and Gmail and also have an empty Archive folder
