- System restore back to yesterday.
- Reinstall the drivers for the ethernet card and check there's no exclamation mark in Device Manager.
- Run IPCONFIG and see if it reports normal settings (compare with working machine) - anyway refresh and renew the connection.
- Other Ethernet card. Sometimes things stopping working are defective.

OK, I have a Rogers high-speed cable modem and the other day it just stopped working. It was working fine one day, i turn it on the next and it dosen't work. I have looked at the other threads about this but none of them work. I've tried chainging the Internet Protocol to detect IP adress automatically, the computer detects the modem, the modem is operational. When i right click it and select Status, it says it's connected correctly but its not recieving packets, and sending very few packets. Its a single computer and i know the modem works because i'm using a different computer (no LAN connection) with the same modem to upload this message. I didn't change anything and i've tried every program i can get my hands on to search for any kind of spyware or viruses and i haven't found anything. please help!
My computer is Windows XP proffesional (no service packs) and my modem (NOT wireless) is a Motorola Cable Modem. My modem card is Realtek RTL8169/8110 Family Gigabit Ethernet NIC
