Mar 6, 2005 5:26AM PST

I get the error "Macromedia Projector has encountered a problem and needs to close.
We are sorry for the inconvenience." I am running Windows XP Home Edition on a fairly new emachine. Everything else works perfectly - why do I keep getting this error???

Dear mike,

When do you recieve this error? Upon startup? Upon opening a flash game / movie?

Please be a bit more specific,

I have this problem using other games. I finally got a smart Tech support person and this solved the problem.... I hop it does yours also...

According to the discussion over the phone for the error message Macromedia has encountered an error, I have found some solution, kidly try them out and mail me back with suggesions.
- Click - Start, Programs, Accessories, Program Compatibility Wizard.
- Follow the prompts to set up the compatibility mode.
- Use Windows 98 compatibility, and disable visual themes.

- The program should now work properly in Windows XP.
Also try 16 bit compatibility wized under display properties.

Regards
Vivendi Universal Games.

Thanks, It works

Thanks

My son used to play Engie Bengie, and The Fimbles fine, but after the last PC wipe and reinstall, I couldn't get them to run.

Symptoms:

Game starts to load, but instead of a cut screen showing, you get a black screen with sound. Followed later by a macromedia projector error.

Cure:

Run the compatability wizard, select the programs you have a problem with, set to Win98.

If the wizard cannot find the file automatically, you will manually have to browse to the programs folder, which can normally be found at:

c:\program files

I hope this helps other users, as It took me a while to find useful info on Macromedia projector error. Without stumbling on this link, for macromedia projector error, I would have had a very upset 2 1/2 year old.

Many thanks again for the info.

So far, no solution has been found. I've even worked with my computer manufacturer. They're hoping once I save everything to an external hard drive and go back to factory settings I'll be able to play all my games again. Not only do I get the Macromedia Projector error, I get the shockwave.com Keyhole DRM Application has stopped working AND my Game Launcher has stopped working. It's a mess and no one can figure out why.

If I wanted to attempt this I'd try disabling UAC for a test run.

The next solution is called Virtual PC. That's free but you need XP to run inside that.

Similar approach for Vista users
Nov 14, 2007 9:28AM PST

If you have Vista instead of XP, you need to right click on the shortcut for your program, select the compatability tab, and set it to Windows 98/ME compatability. It got my daughters NannyMania game working. Can't vouch for other programs but worth a try.

Apr 23, 2008 12:30PM PDT

Ok I have Vista Premium home.....and I just bought a Flip Video Recorder...well when I run the Flip Video application I keep getting the macromedia projector error.....

I've tried just about every fix mentioned but nothing fixes it. The furthest it started to load was when I changed the compatibility thing to windowns 98 or so...but it went a ways and then got the macromedia projector error again.

Can anyone help me please???

Thanks.

1. Don't bury your post.
Apr 23, 2008 10:15PM PDT

Look at the first posting date!

2. Try it with UAC off.
And no, I don't tell anyone what UAC is. We have google, yahoo. etc.

3. Call it in. I'm sure they have other suggestions.

4. Post this in the Vista forum as a new post rather than bury it here.
