Your camera and lens choice was the first pick at http://www.adorama.com/alc/0008512/article/100-in-100-Part-II-Macro-lens-buying-guide so I think you are right there with where you should be.
Maybe you can replace the broken part (camera or lens?) and carry on.
I am a macro photography "enthusiast" and am in the market for a new camera and macro lens. I have used the Canon 20D with a Tamron 60mm lens for quite some time with what I thought were beautiful results, yet I had to get quite close to my subjects and always wanted more magnification/detail/clarity. I switched to a Sony NEX 5N for fun and used their 30mm Macro lens which produced great pictures, but again I was practically on top of my subjects and it wasn't working for me (and it got dropped and internally broken). SO, I'm doing my research trying to invest my money well in a camera that will produce terrific macro photos as well as standard landscape and portraiture of friends and family. I am trying to decide between Canon and Nikon. I read somewhere that I should pay attention to "points of focus", but what else in a camera should I be looking for that will give me that clear, beautiful macro photo, but also won't be so expensive that I can't afford the 90mm or more macro lens which I am aware will put me out at least $1500 alone. I have photos on 500px and have been shopping around at what other photographers use. 500px.com
What suggestions do you have for me for a camera purchase; and if Nikon, do you use Nikon specific lenses or Tamron? I thank you for your help!!
