Question

MacOS Licensing

Oct 23, 2011 3:15PM PDT

Hi,
i have a mac book pro with mac os 10.6 at work.
On this mac book i should test software on mac os 10.6. Now i should also test this software with mac os 10.7.
Yes, i need to buy the update to 10.7 but how could i run two versions at the same time without buying a second one?
I read that i could run a virtual host with the other mac os version but is this legal?

As long as it is running on the same machine and has the same account name, I think you are pretty much covered.

There is a difference between updates and Full versions
Nov 4, 2011 12:55PM PDT

When you purchase a Mac OS X license you are getting a full version, not an upgrade. Microsoft sells upgrades and they require the previous version. I got bitten by this piece of excremental marketing. I had XP, upgraded to Win 7. The instance of Win 7 got borked, and I needed to reinstall it. It wouldn't reinstall because it was an upgrade, and required a previous version of Windows before starting the install. I wasn't about to spend the time looking for my old install for XP, and installing it. So I had to purchase a new full license.

Apple generally doesn't play stupid marketing games to screw its customers.
