It's always a malware. I uninstalled it already 3 years ago for this very reason, and I was stupid enough to re-download it in its now upgraded design and with technician-chat version. Things don't change: it's always a virus, as it was from the beginning. It hangs itself, and leaves computer hung. Their $514 yearly subscription for "Mac-authorized remote assistance" is just a practical joke.

MacKeeper is an application that should be avoided at all costs.
At best it is a scam and at worst it is an insidious piece of malware!

Step away from any offer from MacKeeper.

I had the similar experience with you. Once I installed MacKeeper by accident and found it does no help to improve the performance. What's worse, I cannot uninstalled it at all, every time I removed it from my Mac, its website will pop up when I use the Safari.

I googled the solutions and found the most useful and easy-to-operate way is using a third party such as Dr. Cleaner: Disk, Memory Clean, which is totally free on the App store. It helps you remove unwanted and useless files, thus optimizing and speeding up your Mac.

I’ve been using it for more than a year now. My MacBook is 128 GB, I cleared up 25 GB disk space with this app. Amazing! And I could feel that my Mac operates more smoothly with help of this app.

This is the typical "talk it up" post where they tell you how great these products are.

Sorry folk, but you've been warned here. Don't fall for it.
