Mach Kernel File appears

May 30, 2008 8:48AM PDT

I keep a bunch of folders within my dock for easy access. One of them being my hard drive even though I could simply click on it via the desktop. Nevertheless, I prefer to have it in the dock, and today, I noticed that within the HD stack, a mach_kernel file has appeared. Only after applying the 5.3 update have I seen this appear in that stack. It does not appear when I open the HD folder in the Finder, and if I drag it out of the stack to the desktop, it won't go back to its location because it is invisible, according to the Finder.

Repairing disk permissions solved nothing, but thought I should have tried that. How do I make it "simply go away", out of the dock folder? I found this page and with it, a Terminal fix for this specific problem, but I'm open to any other suggestions before doing that. What to do... Thoughts anyone?

No problem with the Terminal fix

Just one of those quirky things that happen now and again.

Copy and paste the command or make absolutely certain you type it correctly when you come to do it.

Worked like a charm

Just put the command in and now the file no longer shows up in the dock. Great little fix. Course if my Mac explodes on me, I'll know what did it. Wink
