Question

Macbook Pro vs Canon D11120 printer

Oct 19, 2011 2:28AM PDT

Running OS10.6.8
Cannot print to the Canon printer - either thru the network or wired direct. I have no problems printing thru the network to the HP in the office.

what configuration are you using when you configure the printer on the Mac?

general suggestions (the previous post has all valid points)

Try using free Gutenprint drivers (gimp-print). They are allegedly part of Mac OS so chances are they are already installed. If not, download from sourceforge.net. Choose a pertinent one and it should work. If not, I would repair permissions and check if a test admin account works. If yes, switch to it, if not, I would get Print Therapy (not free but usually works). Tell us how it goes.

Well, thanks for all your input. Unfortunately, nothing has worked. I repaired permissions, set up a test admin account ... and tried Print Therapy. Still can't print. I think the only solution will be for the company to buy a PC for me to use when I'm in the office.... then I won't have to use my personal Mac. Unless of course I can convince them it really is a PC issue and they should all be using Macs!

The Printer is a Canon D1120
The Mac recognizes it as such
It is the default printer (as required by Canon), not shared on the network, hard wired to my computer.

If everything is as you say it is,

and I have no reason to doubt you, I would bang on Canon's door and complain bitterly about this printer.

Looks like that will be my only recourse! Wonder if Canon understands the concept of an 'adult conversation'?

I assume you did not try Gutenprint

Nothing to lose. Also, Apple released new Canon printer drivers several days ago. CNET downloads has them.

Actually, I did look at Gutenprint, but didn't see anything listed for the Canon. Will check out the new drivers from Apple. Thanks!

I don't know where you looked

but Gutenprint officially states that it has Canon drivers. Would have been very surprising if they did not have them.

My former officemate also had problems with Canon printers that he immediately ask our ex-boss to ship the printer back to the seller and demanded an Epson printer instead.

As far as I know, he had the same problem as yours. I thought he was just loyal to Epson printers because he personally own one. Turns out he is not alone with this problem.

But maybe the Mac gives that error message because the driver isn't working properly. Or maybe it needs the printer to be the only printer in the queue which means you have to uninstall all printers connected to your computer. Or maybe the printer needs that 'assurance' that its the only printer being used or installed in your Mac.
