Question

Macbook A1181 display problems

Jun 21, 2012 7:06AM PDT

Received a Macbook with the backlight not working. So I replaced the inverter, no fix. I replaced the screen and LVDS cable and now the backlight works, but goes out intermittently when the screen is moved back and forth. What else could be the issue here? The cable isn't pulled under stress when the screen is articulated. Are there any other variables in the chain that would cause these issues?

But the clues are there pointing to cable and contact issues. Did you try a new cable?

Sounds like a pinched cable to me. Possibly just a loose cable. Routing the LVDS cable on those style MacBooks is a right PITA, and it's easy for them to get pinched. You can also check the tiny little cable on the other side that goes into the inverter which controls the backlight. Those can come up pretty easily.
