I actually had the Pro-Tools demo version on an old PC once. I guess it's mostly a biased opinion, based on my experiences as an audio engineer. The studios I've worked at have always used Macs, and in college we only used Macs for editing purposes as well.
Both platforms are fine, it all depends on your personal preferences. I often get defensive instantly, and then retract my statements when I think about it some more. Hence the suddenly wanting an Intel-based PowerBook, when a few months ago I was whining about Intel across the board.

I'm gonna have to correct Veronica on her comment that the caller should go with a mac 'cuz of ProTools. ProTools is cross platform as are most DAW sofware, noteable exceptions being Logic (which apple bought) and Sonar (only Windows).
I'm not even gonna get started on the comment about processing power of macs.
