But Apple won top honors for service. I find laptops to last in proportion to how the owner treats the unit. My laptops age. The batteries lose their capacity, but nothing ever failed outside of one CDRW drive and that was in month 2 and warranty...
You should see what people are using at the school.

I'm starting Grad school in the fall and I need a new laptop- I'm considering either a Dell 600m or maybe an Apple powerbook- cost is an issue but I want to make sure I get a computer that will still be working great in a couple of years- I'd rather this one last a long time.
I need to be able to use several programs at once including microsoft office programs and music and photo editing.
I've heard that Mac's are more reliable, but my only experience with them was with old Apple computers in high school- not a good experience... I'm pretty capable with computers- I can fix most problems myself in the past, but I want a good computer that will be compatible with most schools and businesses.
Any advice? Thanks a lot!
