Try this

Get yourself a Wireless Router and connect the mac and the PC, wirelessly, through router.
That way, each one has an independent path to the Internet and with each other.

Question:

Is it possible for the PC to be connected to the Internet via the Ethernet port AND, at the same time, be connected wirelessly to the Mac?
If the answer is yes, then a closer look at the Help file on the XP machine is called for. Try just connecting to the Mac via your Wireless Card and not trying to share the internet connection. Does the mac "see" the XP wireless signal? If so, what happens when you try to join the XP network?

Red X

Could that mean that you do not have the XP wireless card activated?
