MAC OS X

Dec 22, 2005 9:21PM PST

I moved from Windows to MAC this year. I use my MAC for manuscript composition therefore spell check is important to me. I have found that the MAC spell check borders on being third world quality and further their tech people don't seem to have any idea on fixing spell check related problems

Spell Checking
Dec 22, 2005 9:51PM PST

How interesting.
What program is it that you are using for manuscript composition?

I assume that you are not using TextEditor so you must be using a program that did not come with the machine.

Spell Checkers
Dec 23, 2005 1:17AM PST

Bob, I was trying to find out what program, and by extension, Spell Checker, he was using for the text.
OS X has a system wide spell checker, it even works inside these dialog boxes, but programs like Word have a completely separate one. Appleworks also has it's own.
I would assume that Word would be the norm for this type of work, I could be wrong.

Can you add words to Spell Checker?

Just for completion, it's good to say so here.

Adding Words

Yes, you can add words to the system-wide spell checker under OS X.
I was impressed that it bowled out spelling errors even when I am posting to this forum.
So, for those of us using OS X.3.9 and above, there should be no spelling errors in the posts.

I note there has been no response so far from the original poster

It only works, for some reason, in the text box.

Mine must be brokin

Speil checkeer has nothing to say when I type into the box. For longer posts, I usually type it in Mail, then copy paste, so I can use the spell checker there.

I'm using Safari 2.0.2 but I don't remember it working in IE the few times I used it.

Where does one configure the spell checker for wider use?

Cant trust you with anything

Now you've broken your Spull Chukker.

Open the application that you want to use and choose Edit > Spelling > "Check Spelling as You Type."

and it should be miraculously working

Did you say you could add to the word library?

Where do you find the preferences for the system wide spull chucker?

Yes, you can add words
Dec 24, 2005 4:28AM PST

It's one of those Right Click things or CTRL + Click for those button deprived people.
Just choose, add word and it will be added.
I have not explored to find anything related to the Spell Checker (see, mine works) but it has to be in there some where.
Where is the original poster???

Either you put that into my edit menu while I was sleeping, or I've got to work on my awareness!

Thanks P!
