Mac OS DLNA server for Samsung C650

by lordllex / May 14, 2010 12:45 AM PDT

Hello,
I've tested a lot of DLNA servers for windows, linux and mac. Some worked, some didn't... but the ones that worked, with the exception of Samsung's PC Share Manager, none of theme were able to play MKV HD files on my TV. With some servers i get "Not Supported File Format" error message, with others i am just dumped back to file listing without any message. Anyone can tell me why is this happening or what else should i try? If i use Samsung PC Share Manager everything works... but with other DLNA servers MKV streaming to my TV doesn't work... so i think it is just a software problem...

TwonkyMedia

This is what I use to sync form the iMac to the Samsung TV.
They do have a new version which fixed the issues with MKV.
Tried it the other day, and the film played fine.

Of course, the TV's own DLNA has some issues that no server software can fix, which include the lack of true fast forward and others.

Tried that one too...

I run TwonkyMedia 5.1.4, the versions that supposed to work but no luck... My TV is running software version 2010/03/14_001006, i run Twonky on OS X 10.6.3 (i also tried Twonky on windows and linux but got same problem). The TV and my iMac are connected to a Airport Extreme (iMac is wireless and TV is wired). Twonky works great with AVIs but no luck at all with MKVs =(

Although TMS 5.1.4 works for me with MKV files. I know that additional work on MKV file support has been done on TMS 6.0 which is currently available as a beta download here: http://bit.ly/9AJBIJ

Bob is right. If you can send us the problem file (or link to a problem file), we can sometimes figure out what is causing and fix this type of problem. Of course this is sometimes a challenge -- because of the size of these files. If you don't have access to an FTP with a lot of storage, you might want to send the files using a service like YouSendIt.com. Send the files to tmm-beta@pv.com.

Thanks

Testing completed. Progress made
by TMM_Product_Manager / May 21, 2010 4:19 AM PDT

We've finished testing the MKV files that you sent us. Here is what we found:

1. The video plays fine using TwonkyServer 6.0 which is now available in the Beta section of Twonky Forum.

2. We confirmed what you're seeing with TMS 5.1.x. The file didn't play for us either. The reason it didn't play was due to a wrong MIME type in the HTTP reponses of Twonky. This issue has been FIXED. The fix will be present in a future version of TMS 5.1.5 which will be available soon in Twonky Forum.
