Let's not get into the old Apple/Windows feud. That's done. For most the Windows laptop is the right move as that's where most students have and the apps or such are tested most there.
As to the Apple, the Air is nice but not something I'd advise for a student.
I am a highschool sophomore and will be moving into US this September. I am looking for a laptop as a desktop replacement, and possibly for a long term use throughout my university as well. I have always been an avid user of Samsung's products, but I felt that going to US I would benefit from switching to Apple(imessage, etc). If I choose a mac, then I would probably need to buy an Iphone, or if I buy a windows laptop I would by S10 as well. I have been looking at XPS 13 from Dell and Thinkpad X1 carbon for windows laptop, but more confusing is the macbook lineups. I was thinking of 2018 macbook air and 2017 macbook pro. I just think 2019 macbook pro is a bit of an overkill for my daily use. So, performance wise I would choose 2017 macbook pro without a hesistation, but the second gen butterfly keyboards really bother me. 2018 macbook air is fair, but the display and its performance make it not suitable for long term use. Would it be really worth switching to Apple moving into US and if so what macbook should I look to buy?
