Mac mail !

Oct 23, 2007 3:31AM PDT

I can not remember my password(whether I set one or not) for my Mac mail. Every time I try to use it, it asks for my password . I definitely have an account, which I set up some time since but cannot remember my password.
Is there a way to find my forgotten password ? or to set another one? It is not in the keychain.Macbook 2.1, OS 10.4
Please help.
Thank you.

Password
Oct 23, 2007 4:28AM PDT

There is NOT a password for the Mail application.

What Mail is looking for is your email password. This is the password that is stored on your ISP's mail server and which authenticates you when you go to collect mail.

If you cannot remember it, phone your ISP and get them to reset your password and tell you what it is.

Once you enter your new password into Mail, it should remember it.

Thank you mrmacfixit,
Sorry about the delay in thanking you for your response.
[MacBook core2duo , 10.4.10.]

I am sure the information I am giving is not the crucial 'tell tale' information hence the difficulty.

I have put in all the passwords I could think of but I keep getting the same statement in response, {The .Mac Server "mail.mac.com"rejected the password for user Shafiq Khan."

I tried to open another account then it maintains that I already have an account.

I am not sure I have not seen the ISP telephone number for .Mac ! Where would one get that?

I hope it makes some sense!

He is referring to the phone number for your ISP. The service that gives you internet access.

Do you also have a mail program that came with your ISP? Does it work OK?

Mail is included for free. .Mac Mail is not free. If you bought .Mac, on its log-in page it has under the password, "Forgot your password"?

Good luck!

Apple Mail occasionally asks for the password
Mar 10, 2010 4:15AM PST

At least once or twice a day Apple's Mail program asks for the user password. I have checked the "remember me" button after entering the correct password and yet it keeps coming back. I use Mail all day long with check intervals set at every minute, so I know the ISP has the right password set.

I am using an Intel Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz MacBook Pro with OS 10.5.8 and 3 GB of RAM installed.

Mail is version 3.6

I know that there was a problem and answer a while ago, but cannot find the thread to get the answer.

Any suggestions?
