a problem from a few years ago.
The problem, believe it or not, can be caused by a defective battery. The one that keeps all the settings and stuff stored in PRAM from fading away.
Because the video card needed a certain push to get it started, and the dead battery failed to charge the capacitor that provided it, the machine would not boot. No video = No Boot.
Try removing the battery for 20 mins, at least, put it back in and try again. Replace the battery if necessary. It may not be the answer but it is worth a try

I have a Power Mac G5 dual processor, purchased October '03. Recently it has failed to start. After pushing start button, the pilot light goes on, but there's no "gong" or screen startup. And pushing the power button will not turn off the pilot light.
Once, letting it sit "frozen" that way for a minute or so, the fan noise became increasingly louder. So I pulled the plug.
My solution for the moment, if the start button doesn't work, is to turn the power supply off, then on. The unit will start normally on second try.
Can anyone tell me if this is a minor or to-become-major problem? Is there a re-set button somewhere? Or...? Thank you.
