Mac as a gaming rig?

Feb 9, 2007 7:57AM PST

I was wondering if anyone knew of any 3dMark Bench tests using an iMac and windows XP for gaming. On paper, looking at a X1600 or 7600GT video card iMac, it doesn't look that impressive and on paper anyway, much less than my current PC system. But hence why I am looking for the bench marks.

The reason I ask is I am seriously considering switching to a Mac but the Mac games are sorry, I only play first person shooters. I am considering a dual boot system so I can keep what I like about windows, the best games out IMHO, and leave the rest behind.

I know Macs aren't gaming rigs and I understand it probably wont get to max settings, but high settings running at a good DPI on the 24" iMac would be nice.

Also, how hard is it to upgrade the video card in the iMac, or is that stricty a factory job.

BTW Please don't point me to the Mac Pro as, while the XT1900 is a great card, but for that cost I can make my current PC a linux machine and build a killer gaming only rig.
