Mac and photography

I save all my photos as JPEG's. I usually save them in a burn folder... and when I open the burn folder some of the files actually show thumbnails of the pictures, and other files just show a blank page that says "JPEG" on them. When I take this DVD to a printing company they can only open the ones that show the thumbnail. The others are won't open, and can not be uploaded onto the internet. They are JPEG'S!!! What am I doing wrong??????

Many PCs can't handle .JPEG files.

To make life easier try .JPG for those machines. Also you have to use SINGLE CLOSED SESSION media for the best chance of other machines to read that media.

If you don't do this then your chances of it working in the wild are reduced.

What is Single closed session media?

Thank you so much! But what exactly is SINGLE CLOSED SESSION media? WHen I shoot in RAW format I just upload the photos into a file under "pictures," and it is those photos that I cannot print even after I've converted them. I've noticed I actually have to open them up in an application such as CS3 and then resave them again, and then it will let those resaved photos be printed.

Sometimes I am really glad I bought a Mac, but I think the learning curve is just a little over my head.

Single Closed Session

is where you burn all the files in one go and then close the session.

If you burn a CD using the Finder, putting the files into the Burn folder and then telling Finder to burn the CD, creates a Single Closed Session.

You will notice this if you try to add files to that CD. Finder will balk and ask for a blank CD. Even if you only put 1 tiny file on the CD and burn it from the Finder, you cannot add files to it.

I think your problem "may" lie with the RAW format. Note how you have to open and save them before they can be printed. As Bob already mentioned, JPG if the preferred format for cross platform stuff.

By the way, if you use something like Toast to burn your CD/DVD's, the default method, like Finder, is Single Closed Session.
