Question

Lumia 2520 or Surface 2

Feb 24, 2014 2:06AM PST

Hi Everyone,

I'm new here and needed some advice.

I bought a Surface 2 (NOT Pro) less than a week ago. Today I was the Lumia 2520 and I am kind of interested in it now. My biggest concern is battery life and speed. My surface 2 kind of lags and freezes while playing games and i have to close the game out and restart it to fix the issue. Can someone advise me whether I should exchange it for a Lumia 2520 for keep the Surface 2.
I would really appreciate the help.

Thanks!

Answer
This one?

This runs Windows 8.1 RT so if there is an app issue it's unlike your run of the mill Windows PC. OK, let's recap. Windows RT is not open to you installing anything you want and if an app is doing something bad then unlike a PC where they can claim your PC isn't up to the task you take them to task for the issue.

In other words you found a defect and must decide what to do. Frankly I would return this since even Microsoft is telling us they are dropping support in about 4 years. http://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-ends-mainstream-support-for-surface-2pro-2-on-april-10-2018

I won't mince words here. This is not a Personal Computer system. And you have reported this one is not working for you. Get out while you can.

Should I switch then?

Thanks for the reply. I see. I didn't know that this couldn't install apps for the desktop. Do you think it would be wise then to switch to a Lumia 2520 then?

Thanks!

In the case of Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT

I would not make any bet on that. Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT is a tightly controlled system that has me writing "no sale." Sure if they want to supply it for free.

It appears to have Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT

Same issues and for me, no sale unless it's free. Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT is too restricted for me to consider today as well as Microsoft being honest about how they don't plan to support it as long as they normally do.

It all feels like an lab experiment with consumers being lab rats.

I'd consider an iPad over Microsoft Windows 8.1 RT anyday.
