Lowest-price non-tape camcorder w/mic jack?

by danhughes1 / December 3, 2008 1:13 AM PST

I'm looking for a relatively low-priced camcorder that uses a hard drive, DVD, or SD card rather than mini-DV or other digital tape.

And a microphone jack is a must-have.

Thanks for any recommendations!

It depends on your budget.

Low priced can mean anywhere from $200-800. Where are you looking? Also, what will you be doing with it (to get an idea for the situations)?

You've been warned: Stay away from DVD camcorders!

Low-priced camcorder with microphone

Under $300. I'm much more concerned about audio quality than video quality; I have several professional mics I'd like to use with a camcorder.

Why do you warn against DVD camcorders?

Some ideas.

You'll be looking for an external mic jack I would assume. The Canon ZR series seems to be a popular suggestion for the lower end that still include mic jacks.

Searching this forum with the words "DVD camcorder" would show that there are too many people that have problems with recording, saving, transferring, and editing. To be on the safe side, I would stay away from DVD camcorders.
