Low Price on Canon 20D Are they all the same Specs?

Apr 22, 2005 1:40AM PDT

I am trying to buy a Canon 20D camera.
I found a low price nearby but I am questioning
if some 20D's could have different specs and
it wouldn't really be a lower price.
It comes with 18-55 lens that I really don't need.
It is just the camera and lens without any accessories, I think. Do I need to look for one
with the cables and software.
Thanks

Canon 20D Advertisements
Apr 22, 2005 2:07AM PDT

To my knowledge, there are only two packages available:

With lens or
Without lens

Either one ships with:

EOS 20D camera, BP-511A lithium-ion battery pack, Battery Charger CG-580, USB Cable IFC-400PCU, Video Cable VC-100, a wide neckstrap, 3 software CDs (includes Canon?s new Digital Photo Professional, EOS Viewer Utility and Adobe Photoshop Elements), printed instruction manuals, and a 1-year Canon U.S.A. limited warranty.

If a dealer tried to charge you extra for any of the items listed above, the dealer is dishonest.

............................

Look down through the postings in this forum and you will find several complaints about dishonest camera dealers.

............................

If the price looks too good to be true......it is.

Canon 20D research
Apr 24, 2005 12:09AM PDT

All my research results agree with snapshot2. I suggest you monitor the Cnet "compare prices" list for both with and without lens, for they change daily and read company reviews.

I recently purchased a Canon 20d online from I Buy Digital. Being such a high ticket item, I was a bit concerned buying from an unknown Internet source, however the savings was tremendous that I couldn't justify not trying. I did my home work, checked review after review at Cnet, Epinions, Google, fine print on guarantees and warrantees, made in USA, etc. until I was comfortable with my decision. I decided on I Buy Digital, best price/reviews and I had a very easy, fast, and professional experience. Yes, they sent me an email and I had to call to confirm, however this also gave me the opportunity to confirm the item was in stock, came as a USA factory sealed packaged with all items, new in box, etc. They asked if I would like to purchase any additional items, I declined, and that was it. No hard sell, no threats. I opted for the standard shipping and the camera came 3 days later. I would certainly purchase from them again.
I hope this review helps put your mind at ease.

Canon 20d? Three points
Apr 24, 2005 4:23PM PDT

I'm still a novice but here's three points re the 20D:
1 check out dpreview.com for info - they announced an important 20D firmware upgrade @ 4/20
2 most recommended stores seem to offer the 18 - 55mm lens as part of a kit. It's pretty common
3 costco.com has the 20d w/ 18-55 lens for $1199 + tax and shipping. Any costco store accepts returns with receipt for any reason for full refund (incl shipping) (no time limit either). And you can even email them for price protection if it goes down within limitation (or return and rebuy it) if > 30 days. They are fabulous to deal with.
