Lost word password

Oct 8, 2007 2:33AM PDT

I just got my old laptop working after several years and there are some old MS Word documents on there that I wouldn't mind having a look at. I've downloaded the trial versions of a few different programs to crack the password and they either don't work or show me a small snippet of the document.

They aren't very important to me (or I would have remembered the password) so I don't want to have to pay $29.99 for something that I'll only use once and don't really need.

Does anyone know another way of looking at these files? Even read only or something?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Len.

Recalling passwords......suggestions.

That password is still in your mind. You need to find some ways to recall it. Easy to say,... But not impossible. It takes time. Let's hope you used the same password for all the documents, as otherwise, it will be impossible to recall the right one.

Ask yourself questions:
? Is it generated randomly ?(very hard to recall)
? Is it a name or number, or a combination ?
? A word or number related to something you owned, knew, used,...
? A unique phrase, song title first line...,
? ...

If you give it enough thoughts - not hard thinking, but thoughts at leisure, it will usually come back, at a moment least expected, especially if you have used that password a lot in the past. It may even come up in your dreams ! A "trick" to use: Try to access a password protected document, with the window to enter the password on the screen....put your fingers on the key board...play around a bit....let your subconscious mind do its work....it may be able to direct your fingers to type out the password sequence. Try to create the same "atmosphere" as it was years ago when you used to open those documents, to try to help your mind to recall that password.

BTW, are you sure that you have not written down the password somewhere ?
