Lost wireless connection when upgraded to Windows 10

Feb 26, 2016 6:08PM PST

While using Windows 7 I often disabled my wireless connection by using the f12 function key. It was disabled when I upgraded to Windows 10 via my ethernet connection. The f12 key now only controls airplane mode. I cannot enable my wireless adapter. I have an HP Pavillion dv7 notebook computer. HP says they offer no Windows 10 compatible upgrades for this model. Is there a solution other than restoring Windows 7?

About 4 and up dollars.

Inexpensive USB WiFi dongle works fine.

I had tried every possible software method and I waited too long to roll back to Windows 7. Then I got no help from the computer manufacturer. I guess a 3-year old computer wasn't worth supporting. CNET Forum was my last hope. But yes, an inexpensive USB WiFi dongle works fine and was easy to install. I was unaware that they were available. Thanks for the answer.

Hi,

May be you can try to Enable Wireless Network manually by following below path.
Start> Settings> Network and Internet> Wi Fi> Change Adapter Options> Right Click on Wi Fi and try to Enable it.

Also check drivers for Wireless in Device Manager.
If drivers are missing from Device Manager, then you can contact your Laptop’s Motherboard or Wireless Card Manufacturer for updated Wi Fi Drivers.

You can get Motherboard and Wi Fi Card details from your Laptop Manufacturer.

Please reply if it works.

Thanks, but your answer didn't help.

I had already tried everything you suggested including contacting the manufacturer before I posted my question. And I had waited too long to roll back to Windows 7. A USB WiFi adapter works fine.

Answer
if there are no compatible upgrades

most techs will recommend not to upgrade if there are not any win10 compatible upgrades for the specific model. that said

for clarification when you say wireless adapter - are you saying you have a usb wireless adapter? or is it what came with the computer? if a usb, go to the adapters website and get the adapters driver from there. If it does not help
please give the full model of the notebook and if the adapter is separate, give the full model number of the adapter.

No support from computer manufacturer

My adapter was internal. HP apparently considered a 3-year old computer not worth providing any upgrade. So I got a USB adapter which works fine.
