Question

Lost use of my touchpad right-button-click, HELP !

Jan 2, 2016 6:17PM PST

Hello & Thanks ,
After fixing(?) hover problem here:
http://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/how-to-shut-off-or-slow-down-pointerhover-event-detection/

I have lost use of my touchpad right-button-click .
And it is a big deal , no more properties , sendTo , copy , etc..

So I am looking for a safe "reinstall , uninstall , install " procedure . I have never done this , so I am concerned , "what if I can't get back to where I was?" .
Should I go out and buy a usb-mouse for backup ?
What kind of mouse , a walmart mouse , or what ?

Thanks...Vern

Answer
Not knowing what your make & model you have, I'm guessing...

...that you can probably just delete the driver for it in Device Manager and reboot. That usually works. However I greatly DESPISE the touchpad and have been using a Microsoft compact optical mouse. It's about half the size of a normal mouse, and works very well for me. It's been several years since I bought it, but I think they're under $20.
`
Good luck.

That's not a good sign. That is, the hardware is now suspect. Does an external mouse work?

Next up, another OS. I use any of the Live OSes as a test from Live Linux to, if it runs that Windows on the UBCD.

Either or, hover/RightClick OR noHover/noRightClick
Jan 4, 2016 8:44AM PST

Turns out : These are my only options :
Either Or, hover/RightClick OR noHover/noRightClick ,
never noHover/RightClick .

So I am choosing noHover/Shift+F10 .

Live OSes are
Jan 4, 2016 9:01AM PST

Complete operating systems that boot from Floppy, CD, DVD, USB or other removable media. These are widely used when you want to test some hardware without touching your client's installed OS.

There are too many web pages about this today so I tend to not go into detail anymore. That is, I noted it years ago at http://tips.oncomputers.info/archives2004/0401/2004-Jan-11.htm
