I would go back and double check the setup as that is normally where you enable or disable onboard features like video, sound.

I upgraded from Win 98 to XP by reformatting & doing a new XP install. Prior to installing XP, I upgraded my Bios (it's now Award 4.51PG) and added 128Mb RAM (it's now 256Mb). I have a 350 Mhz Pentium II with a Micro ATX Motherboard - VIA Apollo Pro Chipset with onboard ESS sound card. In the switch from Win 98 to XP, I have lost all sounds. I went through all the troubleshooting tips in XP & spent a lifetime on MS' Knowledge Base, but no help. Finally, thinking my card had blown, I bought a Sound Blaster card and installed it. I can now play CD's on my secondary CD & hear sound, but I cannot play System Sounds, or CD's on my primary CD. So, thinking I had a conflict between the sound cards, I disconnected the wire from the motherboard to the speakers, however, because it's on onboard card I cannot disconnect it & there is no place on the BIOS that mentions audio, so I cannot disable it there. Even though I have uninstalled the ESS drivers, XP still sees the onboard card, but I don't get sound. Any suggestions? Thanks
