Lost signal with S-video

I have all Sony equipment that is about 5 yrs old. The video components (PS2 & DVD) are swithched through the receiver due to the limited s-video inputs on my TV. Recently when we watch DVD's on either the PS2 or DVD player the video signal cuts out when the image gets very dark and then comes back when it brightens up. It is like there is a switch in the receiver that is being flipped when it gets dark. I've checked the s-video cables and they are secure, I even replaced the cable from the receiver to the TV. Does my receiver need a component repaired?

Reseat all the S-video cables.

Try going directly from the DVD player to the TV, bypassing the receiver. Se if you still have the problem. john

I've connected the DVD directly to the TV with the S-video cable and the picture still cuts out during really dark scenes. How do I fix this?
