Resolved Question

Lost old Firefox when I downloaded v.8

Dec 14, 2011 4:15AM PST

I am so angry...When I opened Firefox (v.7, I think) this morning, I got a pop-up saying there was a newer version and asking if I wanted to upgrade. I clicked the download button, it downloaded THEN told me I could not use it with OSX 10.4.11. My older version was gone... I had gotten this message before and when I tried to download it was told I could not use it before the download. Please tell me there is a way to get my old version back. I have several years of "Stuff" on it. I'm just sick.

Old version question

Are you implying that there is no hope of recovering the Firefox that has all of my folders?

Rather than imply.

1. We only lose what we don't backup (all the Cnet Mods know this.)

2. I've had good luck with Firefox retaining content but let's be safe.

3. To find your content, read http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox and scroll down to Mac. Now you can copy that for safe keeping.

4. After step 3, install the older version you want.

Very funny...... BUT
Dec 14, 2011 10:30AM PST

It came back as v. 3.5.2, and when I try to get an upgrade, I end up back on the v. 8 page. I am going to go to the site you suggested to see if I can find a version that will work with my old Tiger.

I downloaded it and it says I can't use this version with my OS.... 3.5.2 seems to be working but I got a message
that it was not "secure." And, I'm never sure where to find it to open, because the last two times I've quit, it has
disappeared from my Dock. <Groan>

It probably disappears from your dock,

because you have never put the icon into the Application side of the dock.

<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">and everything seems to be intact. The icon was just to the left of the divider so I moved it further to the left and it is now staying. I would love to upgrade my system, but I don't live near an Apple dealer. The closest is 250 miles away. I had some repair work done by a PC guy a while back and am not happy with the results. He would be willing to order me a new Macintosh.......... I don't think so. I'm 78 years old and not savvy enough to do it myself and my fiance is a PC guy. Thank all of you for your usual assistance.<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">

You don't pay sales tax and usually have free shipping.

I would not be concerned about security

that much. One thing that I found on Mozilla forums is that even Firefox 4 is not supported on Tiger. This means that your version 3 is the latest for your system software. Once you get Leopard (up to you, of course, you could go up to version Cool. Besides, you have other browsers out there as well that may not be so OS-picky.
