Lost Network laptop after resetting router

PC is HP with Vista Home Prem
Laptop is Toshiba with Vista Home Basic
Router is a Lynksys wrt54g
I had the network in home running for 2 years,my son is coming to visit and wanted access-I could not remember the passkey to allow him to access. In order to find and change the passkey I had to reset router to original settings which I did.Sine then I have not been able to connect from the laptop.I checked settings on PC they seem to be unchanged
Name is workgroup on both computers
Private Network
Discovery is on along with file sharing and printer is on
Public folder is off and pass protection is off
When I try to connect it asks for passkey which I enter
but it still will not connect
I try to look at --in Net and sharing center computers and devices on the laptop it shows only the laptop
on the PC it shows router and PC
I know I am missing a setting but I just cant see it I had saved the original setting from the router and re-entered the after the reset with a diff passkey
Thank you

More information needed please...

Please describe the way the network is connected. Is the Lynksys wrt54g[Linksys ?] a stand alone wireless router, or is it a modem/router ? If you have a separate modem, how are they connected ? What is the position of the HP desktop ? Can it connect to the Internet ?
