Just a note first. I deleted the original post I made as that was for XP, and I realised this is Vista.

I am running Windows Vista Home Premium on a Dell Inspirion 1420 laptop. I don't know if a recent program install, windows update or when I ran a registry cleanup program did it, but I have an odd problem here.
On the start menu, my recent documents thing has disappeared. I can't get it back. I have tried right clicking the start button, clicking properties, unchecking that box display a list of recent documents and applying it, then checking it and applying that, it doesn't work to get recent documents back to my start menu.
Only thing I can think of is that something modified the registry. I went to hkey_current_user/software/microsoft/windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/RecentDocs
There is only one entry in there, it says :
name type data
Default REG_SZ (value not set)
that's all there is in there under so i'm thinking there must be some stuff missing. So, was wondering if anyone can help me out more on what's going on and how i can get recent items back on my start menu. Thanks
