Did this occure right after upgrading from IE 6? If so, perhaps the IE 7 installation is corrupt. Try going back to IE 6 by removing IE 7 from Add/Remove Programs. If the Favorites are back, copy the Favorites folder to another location such as the Desktop and change the name of the newly copied folder. Or copy the Favorites folder to a CD and don't bother changing the name.

Reinstall IE 7. The Favorites [should] be where they belong. If not, and you chose to copy the Favorites folder to the Desktop and change the name, just change the name back to Favorites and move it to C:\Documents and Settings\{your Username}. If you receive a warnig that the folder already exists and do you want to replace it, click Yes or OK.

If you copied the folder to a CD, simply copy or move it to C:\Documents and Settings\{your Username}

Hope this helps.

It's just a folder in your profile on the hard disk. In XP it's called Favorites and it's directly in Documents and Settings\<your username>. Don't know the details for Vista and 7. If that folder is empty, they are gone forever.

Most people prefer not to lose them, so include either that folder or the bookmarks file that results from exporting them in their backup. Just in case they are gone. Didn't you?

You are awesome and a life saver. Thanks for the tip on where to find my bookmarks. I had accumulated bookmarks for over 5 years and thought they were gone after having to reimage my machine. Totally forgot to export them. THANK YOU!

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
