Resolved Question

Lost internal and external CD/DVD drive

May 23, 2016 7:59AM PDT

I have a samsung 400b laptop running windows 10. I'm not sure when it happened but have just discovered that I can no longer access my dvd drive. I have then plugged a USB DVD drive into the laptop and it wont read that either.I have been to device manager and found that the following messsage was displayed ' Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged). I have tried to rollback the driver to no effect as I have no previous ones and have also tried to see if there was an update but my computer says the drivers are the latest. I cannot seem to remove the driver either (as i thought i could manually replace it with one from the support sites for my laptop) but am unable to do this as their seems to be an extra layer of security now to prevent me from doing this. I dont want to completed re-install windows as its just too much time, can anybody help

Sorry for all caps on the driver comment. I've seen folk try to fix this by driver hunts. They can lose weeks hunting for the driver. Hopefully you didn't lose much time.
