Question

lost iles

Hi Guys—
I’m a retired artist. About to turn 90. I have a ton of images in my computer. Yesterday my still-active artist wife asked me to print some back of painting labels for her prints. (labels are all text)
I went into my usual files to look for labels. Wherever I went and clicked on a file that said labels, I found myself looking at a page I’ve never seen before, depicting a number of our own images—photos and paintings, titled: Microsoft Picture manager, whatever that is. In another I click on Lighthouse Picture label, and a picture of the lighthouse painting appears, not the label.
All of the labels I created over the years have vanished. Does this ring a bell? I’m assuming I’ve been hacked.
I have to admit, since I am the only person with access (computer is in our master bedroom) it’s possible I never created a password. Waking to this stupidity I decided to create one and did the following:
Went to Start and in Search Programs I printed Passwords. I saw the following:

Set Search Saver Password
Change Your Windows Password
Create A Password Rest Disk
Create Or Remove Password
Manage Network Passwords
Require A Password When The Computer Wakes

I have Windows 7
Can you tell me which of the above to choose?
Thanks for help,
Martin

Answer
Maybe you have hidden that column?
Apr 27, 2018 2:27PM PDT

there are different colums like size, file name, and more. Right clk on the top where these columns are named and see if you find one for labels too that isn't checked, so not showing.

Sorry James, I don't understand. I'm talking files and your talking columns. I don't know what a column is. Additionally, I just designed and printed a new set of labels for my wife, since the original is unreachable. They printed fine, but I have not been able to save the label to any place in my computer. Meaning every time she wants a new set, I have to redesign again--to print. This is mind boggling. Getting desperate.

lost files (passwords)
Apr 28, 2018 8:40AM PDT

Suddenly, this morning, I am able to save and open the labels. A friggin' miracle after a day of utter frustration. My computer was crawling when I began to work--I mean SLOW. Which brings me back to the notion of someone on the internet poking around in my PC. As artists we have a ton of images on file, and I suspect that someone is borrowing images to sell elsewhere, perhaps Europe, as prints. Which brings me back to wanting to insert a password for protection--as I noted in my related question in "Lost files." I need help in that area (passwords), if anyone has read that request, I would appreciate a response..
Thanks,
MARTIN

With your lost files.
Scrambled files.
Unable to save a file.
Slow/crawling machine.

I'm thinking you have deeper problems than hacking.

Do you have a backup of this ton of images?

Password, see if something here fits.

Run a speccy and post a link.

Let's see if something jumps out.

Thanks guys-- Your responses give me a lot to look at and study. Yes, I do save the images to an external Seagate back up system. Thanks again. I'll probably be back with additional questions. Thanks again.
