Forget windows, can you boot from that A:?

Is it enabled in the BIOS?

Does DIR A: in a command window show it?

Make sure you did not flip the connector at the drive. It is slotted but can be forced incorrectly and light will stay on. Same for motherboard side if older machine.

The clue is that the FD led remains lighted, suggests the connection of cable is wrong, most likely reversed. Check pin-1 to pin-1 ordination. If you used some old FD drive, some drives were wired for OEM(adapter needed) use and even with pin-1 to pin-1 ordination, it will still cuase problems, try *another* floppy. Check bios for proper FD selection and save upon exiting. There is nothing you should do in windows to correct for install, it has to be present in bios before windows even starts to play with it. Otherwise, if problem persists, it maybe dual problem, one with orginal FD and mtrbd. slot connection, it happens.

Luckily, for me, about the only piece of hardware that's failed on me is the FD. After many hrs. of trouble-shooting, I've learned to not close the case until I see that the FD is working. If not, I flip the power cable, and, voila, problem solved.
