Lost DVD Drives Win XP

I need Help, System running fine,for several weeks
Than boot fail, Fixed with a scan disk.
few days later DVD drives inop ( Both Sata &ATA)
Note: I do not know if dvd's quit as a result of scan disk problem...

Other Programs which were recently installed/run: SiSandra ( I think I ran a performance test that failed or I terminated ), CPUZ,

OK Now Problem, Both drives yellow flagged in Device Hardware, Reinstall drivers, remove and let startup reinstall drivers, No fix,

Restore Winxp, dvd drive works, ( recognized in Bios )but after system loads, back to same problem. Ive' reset Bios to fail safe, and many other things,

Win XP won't allow a repair.

Note: can't force reload driver from disc,
NO Drives !!! Chicken and egg thing....

Help from all the wizards would be appreciated.

Continuing searching I found fix:
Microsoft download " guided help314060.exe

It fixes registry ' Hih & Low ' something or other.

What is a surprise is: A restore of Win XP did
not fix the problem...

I think SiSoft 'Lite' killed it as I tryed to do a performance run and mistakenly started CD drive tests.
