lost downloads

suddendly the file downloads from e-mail or webs do not appear where it is supposed to be. the OS is vista basic home in a HP pavillon desktop, using internet explorer 8. we tried antivirus, cleaners, come back to default values and nothing help. maybe I should repair the OS or made other new installation but I would like to know if somebody can help with this problem.

Your help will be greately appreciated

Roberto,

Does IE8 display a prompt to select the download location every time you click a download link? Have you set a default download location or installed any Internet Explorer add-ons?

Personally, I'd recommend using an alternative browser, such as Firefox, which offer better performance and standards support, leaving IE for those cases where it is specifically required. However, tell us a little more and we'll see if this issue can be resolved without more drastic measures.

Ii is automaticaly addresed to the default downloads file. I am going to install firefox and chrome if it happens or not with them
